Our story
A wood yard on the R27, run by people who braai
Charley's Wood started supplying the Melkbosstrand and Blouberg coast with wood that actually burns properly. Today we deliver from Kommetjie to Velddrif — and we still check every load ourselves.
The yard sits on the corner of the R27 and the M19, where the wind comes off the sea and the wood dries the way it should. It began the way most good Cape businesses do: one bakkie, a stack of rooikrans, and neighbours who kept coming back because the fire always caught.
We buy from suppliers we know, and we import Namibian kameeldoring for people who want coals that outlast the evening. Everything is sorted, stacked and stored undercover, so what leaves the yard on a wet July morning is as dry as what leaves in February.
We are not the cheapest bakkie on the side of the road, and we do not pretend to be. We sell wood we would use ourselves, we tell you the delivery fee before you pay, and we arrive when we say we will.
What we stand for
How we do things
Dry wood, always
Everything is seasoned and stored undercover. Wet wood smokes, spits and ruins a braai — we do not sell it.
Invasive species first
Rooikrans and Port Jackson are alien invaders in the Cape. Burning them is good cooking and good land management.
Our own delivery
No couriers. Our drivers know the routes, phone ahead and stack the wood where you want it.
Family run
You deal with the same people every time, from the first WhatsApp to the wood on your stoep.
